The Gambia Basketball Association (GBA) has received a complete set of basketball post from the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Dr. Alhaji Yahya AJJ Jammeh, Babili Mansa.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony on Monday, Minister of Youth and Sports, Alieu K. Jammeh encouraged the executive of the Association to take good care of the equipment as it could go a long way in developing the sport in the country and athletes in basketball. “His Excellency not only this case supported sports associations, but we are all witnesses to the amount of support he continues to invest in sports development. The President has a big heart for the youth and sports,” he said.
The Government, he said has prioritised sports development by not only providing the policy and enabling environment, but went the extreme to provide the needed financial resources. He, however, lamented the lack of desired outcome of these huge investments over the past years.
He commended the basketball executive who, he said is ready to work with the Government. He encouraged other sports associations to follow in the foot-steps of the Basketball Association in order to get similar support.
In receiving the equipment, Abdoulie Jallow, Secretary General of The Gambia Basketball Association applauded the Gambian leader for extending support to the Association. “On behalf of my President and executive, we express our thanks and appreciation to the President. This has been our cry all the time for equipment and facilities for basketball.”
