The Gambia Athletics Association (GAA) will host the 2016 edition of the West African Regional Junior Athletics Championship from 10th to 12th June 2016.
The championship started in 1999 with the 1st edition hosted by The Gambia. All the 16 member states of ECOWAS have been invited to participate in this year’s edition.
Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, in preparation for the event, the President of the Gambia Athletics Association, Dodou Capi Joof said that The Gambia has over the years done very well in this championship and has won several gold and other medals in this category.
According to him, the championship is expected to be graced by Ahmad Kalkaba Malboum, the current President of the African Athletics Association from Cameroon and Alh. Momar Mbaye, the President of the Regional Athletics Association from Senegal, as well as senior officials of participating teams.
The championship, he told the press, is very important as it gives countries in the region the opportunity to identify their potentials for further developments. He added that all events will be based on purely IAAF rules and official timing machines will be in use.
