One of the country’s best female referees Jama Njie has been granted police bail by the Bundung Police Station after she was arrested for allegedly attacking some under-fire Red Scorpions players with a knife on Friday at the Serrekunda East Mini-Stadium.

Relations between Jama Njie and the Old Jeshwang based team has soured over the past few weeks as a result of the fallout from a national women football league match against Interior where Red Scorpions players attacked the referee, causing her actual bodily harm. Red Scorpions have since been relegated to the second division by The Gambia Football Federation with some players and officials also handed lengthy bans.

Observer Sports could not independently verify the actual circumstance that led to the alleged knife attack incident. However, some people have condemned the actions of the referee, while others said the referee might have been provoked by the angry players for the punishment levied on them by the GFF.

Red Scorpions, Observer Sports has gathered from an insider, is determined to push the alleged knife attack incident to a civil court, but on the other hand, The Gambia Football Referees Association is said to be opting for a diplomatic outcome to the matter.
