4-0, it ended, as the Scorpions of The Gambia suffered (probably) the most humiliating defeat at home to the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
Saturday’s results in the ongoing Afcon qualifier for the Nations Cup to be held in Gabon 2017 was unbearable and hard to accept.
The Gambia senior team has never been beaten 4-0 at home since the opening of the stadium in 1984, Veteran sports journalists Pape Saine told Observer Sports.
The Scorpions got to a good start giving the fans  hope for a better result, but 20 minutes later, the South African side gained dominance of the game.
Thansanqa Gabuzi gave his side the lead in the 31st minute before extending it on the 39th minute of the first half.
Resuming from the break, the Scorpions kept chasing shadows creating minimal chances, but South Africa was indeed the side to watch as they knocked the ball around, building on their counter attacks.
Captain Keagan Dolly put the game beyond Gambia’s reach when he fired in two fantastic goals in the 55th and 78th minutes in the second half.
Fans and spectators could not hide their dissatisfaction as they were heard booing the coach and team. The unacceptable result will remain the talking point in Gambian football for months.
