“Fans are happy when the results are good, but worst when the results are bad,” the president of the Gambia Football Federation, Lamin Kaba Bajo reacted to the behavior of disgruntled fans and spectators, following the Scorpions humiliating 4-0 defeat on home soil to South Africa last Saturday.
The Gambia lost three of their five matches in the tournament with two points, whiles South Africa lost only a single game with 6 points in group M
Thansanqa Gabuzi gave his side the lead in the 31st minute before extending it on the 39th minute of the first half, while Captain Keagan Dolly doubled makes it a humiliated defeat to the scorpions in the 55th and 78th minutes in the second half.
The Gambia senior team has never been beaten 4-0 at home since the opening of the stadium in 1984, Veteran sports journalists Pape Saine told Observer Sports
Speaking to Observer Sports after the game, Bajo said the Scorpions’ fans have never been consistent in supporting any national team coach in the country. “Fans are always happy when the results are good, but are worst when results are bad.”
Even though he was equally dissapointed by the result, Bajo commended the players for the hard work.
He told Observer Sports that his executive will continue given all the necessary support to achieve the target of the senior scorpions in the so-called rebuilding and rebranding process.
