Gambia international Modou Barrow took time off his busy holiday schedule to visit the Afia Banjul Football Academy Foundation on Sunday morning.
The academy, which is supported by his Premier League club, Swansea City, were surprised with a visit by Barrow, who showed the kids some training drills.
Mr. Lamin Jobarteh, manager of the academy, said Barrow’s visit was of importance to his academy kids as he is someone they look up to and is a big motivation to them.
“Modou Barrow’s visit here is a big motivation to the Afia Banjul Football Academy Foundation as this is the first time in the history of the academy that we are receiving such a high profile professional,” he said.
He added: “The kids are delighted watching and training with a Premier League player and we can only thank him for his time and efforts.”
He finally appealed to Barrow for support to his academy either in cash or in kind.
For his part, the former Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers loanee said he decided to make a surprise visit to the academy so as to make the boys happy and he saw that his presence at their training ground meant a lot to them.
“I’m happy being here to watch these kids train and see how their coaches teach them skills. This is a good start for them and I hope they can make it up in the sport as they grow up,” he said.
He implored the youngsters to listen to their coaches, take their advice, be steadfast in their training and focus on their education.
