Niumi Tubakolong Village Poised to Revitalise Wrestling

In their quest to revitalise the traditional sport of wrestling, Weeders Youth Development Association of Tubakolong Village, in Upper Niumi, are gearing up for a major wrestling contest on 2nd and 3rd day of Koriteh.

The Association has also planned to stage a marathon run from Albreda to Tubakolong on the 2nd day of Koriteh.

In an Observer Sports interview, Kemo Y Ceesay, Chairman of the organising committee, affirmed that the wrestling contest is part of efforts to revive the traditional sports in Tubakolong and surrounding villages.

“The flag is named after wrestler Leket Bu Barra and we are targeting a total of 100 wrestlers for both heavyweight and lightweight categories. There will also be attractive prizes for the winners,” Ceesay told Observer Sports.

According to him, Governor Lamin Quin Jammeh and Chief Modou Charty Cham are expected to grace the events, while Aja Tumbul Samateh-Manneh, wife of Tabora Manneh is the chief patroness.

Proceeds from the events, he said would be used to develop the village’s mosque and its Islamic school.
