The Gambia Volleyball Federation (GVBF) has dedicated this year’s volleyball curtain raiser (Super Cup final) to the Hon. Minister of Interior, Ousman Sonko.

The game would be played on Saturday at the Manneh Sillah Memorial Lawn in Banjul.

The double male and female finals would be played between the record seven-time champions Gambia Armed Forces women team and last year’s surprise finalists Gamtel/Gamcel. In the men’s category, GAF would entertain four-time champions Old Jeshwang. The first final will kick off at 3pm followed by the second game.

Reacting to the news, Minister Sonko reaffirmed his commitment to work with The Gambia Volleyball Federation (GBVF) in ensuring that the sport is developed in the country.

He added that the success the GVBF has registered in the past two years was unprecedented, noting that the committee under the leadership of Yunusa Barry has greatly moved volleyball to another level in The Gambia.

”I am part and parcel of the volleyball committee and I will continue to join hands in the development of the sport in The Gambia,” Minister Sonko added.

“The Gambia has so far earned international recognition and we shouldn’t let this glory slip from us,” acting President Bai Doudou Jallow said. “We are expecting a very competitive league this season so we are appealing to all the teams to be committed and to ensure discipline at all cost,” he added.
