The graduation ceremony of the maiden ‘Swim for Life Gambia Project’ will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Friendship Hostel Swimming Pool at the Independence Stadium, Bakau at 4pm.

The project, which is aimed at saving Gambian children from the risks of drowning in sea also serves as a platform to introduce swimming as a sport to the young ones with a view to having some of them take up swimming as a career hence the catch phrase, “Catch Them Young.” As we head into the graduation, four out of every six students are swimming from end of the pool to another without support equipment or coaches, something the trainers and organisers hailed as a success.

The month-long swimming project dubbed ‘Swim for Life Gambia project’ is pioneered by The Gambia Press Union through their partners the Gambia Media Support (GAMES) in collaboration with the Red Dolphins and Life Guard Association, the Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia (SJAG) and the Gambia Swimming Association . The training was provided by season coaches from the Gambia Swimming Association and members of the Red Dolphins Life Guard Association.
