The much-anticipated Farafenni Marathon is slated for tomorrow, Saturday, 1 October 2016.
Modou Leigh, Media Assistant of the Committee, said every thing needed make the Marathon a success have been put in place.
The proceeds from the event, he revealed would go towards supporting community activities in the areas of education and health. “We are sponsoring four students through this initiative and there are a lot of things we intend to contribute to the social development of the town,” he said.
Leigh disclosed that this year’s registration is D100, and the race is expected to attract a good number of athletes in the 5km women category from Makka to Farafenni; 10km men from Chamen and the 15km cycling race from Illiassa to Farafenni. There will be an additional activity called Wahu, which is open to all.
Ismila Jammeh, adviser to the committee told Daily Observer Sports that top prize attracts five thousand Dalasis, second prize four thousand,; third position, three thousand Dalasis; fourth prize is two thousand Dalsis and fifth prize is one thousand Dalasis.
He commended Trust Bank Gambia Limited and YKJ Security Services in UK for their support.
