The Gambia Kung Fu Federation on Saturday held its congress at the Semega Janneh Hall where a new executive body was elected to steer the affairs of the Federation for the next four years.

At the congress, delegates elected Bernad Mendy as President; Isatou  Cham, Vice President; Secretary, Awa Bah; Sainey Jarju, assistant secretary; Ebou Sanyang, Public Relations Officer (PRO); Bakary Marong, Assistant PRO; Modou Lamin Badgie, Treasurer; Mafugi Barry, Assistant Treasurer; Robert Buhari, Auditor; Ebrima Jatta, Assistant Auditor.

In an interview with Observer Sports, the newly-elected President, Bernad Mendy, thanked the delegates for the trust they had in electing him to lead the Federation, and acknowledged that the new post comes with lot of challenges.

According to him, his executive is ready for the task ahead in reviving, promoting and developing Kung Fu in the country. He thus urged on stakeholders in Kung Fu to support the executive to realise the objectives of the Federation.

He revealed his plans to decentralise the sports across the country by using schools. However, he lamented that the Federation is not financially strong and calls for support from the public and private institutions.

“We want to rebuild and rebrand our sports.”
