The Gambia National Swimming team will join other African countries in the upcoming 5th edition of the Zone 2 Swimming Championship to be held in Dakar, Senegal, from 27th -29th May 2016.
Gambia’s participation in this historic event will mark its second appearance on the African stage following its first appearance in 2011 when it competed in the 4th edition of Zone 2 African Swimming Championship held in Dakar.
The national team is expected to leave for a training camp in Dakar a week prior to the competition to acquaint themselves with the new swimming rules.
The championship will take place at the Piscine Olympique Nationale, a 2000 seater stadium, with 50-metre Swimming pools of eight lanes and an automatic officiating equipment with a scoreboard.
The Gambian team to the championship in Dakar will feature young Gambian swimmer Pap D. Jonga, who will be competing in the Olympic Games in Rio 2016, after his successful participation in the FINA World Swimming Championship held in Doha in 2014 and Kazan, 2015.
