The grouping for The Gambia Secondary School Sports Association (GSSSA) football championship for junior schools was held yesterday, Thursday at the association’s office at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
This year’s championship will witness eight (8) teams both boys and girls from all the regions. The tournament is sponsored by the association and is set to kick-off on 27th June to 2nd July.
In the girls category, Group A comprised Tallinding Upper Basic School, Presentation Upper Basic School, St John Upper Basic School in Bulock and St. Mulumba’s Upper Basic School in Basse. Group B comprised Greater Banjul UBS, Pakalinding Upper Basic School in LRR, Bakalarr Upper Basic School in NBR and Janjabureh Upper Basic School in CRR.
In the boys category, group A comprised Latrikunda UBS, Ndemban UBS, Janjabureh UBS and Kitty UBS. In group B, there is Bakalarr UBS, Tallinding UBS, Keneba UBS and St. Mulumba’s UBS.
Alagie Y Cham, chairman of the National Organizing Committee said that this year’s schools football tournament is going to be different. The balloting, he said was done fairly and in transparent manner, while hoping for an exciting tournament.
Alagie S Darboe, secretary general of Gambia Secondary School Sports Association commended the regional coordinators for coordinating the qualifiers at their different regional level. The schools from the regions, according to him, are going to be accommodated at the Friendship Hostel.
Senior School Championship
In another similar developmenthhnn, the grouping and fixtures for the Senior Schools Football championship sponsored by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) will be held today morning (Friday) at the Bank’s Head Office along Kairaba Avenue. The tournament dubbed, “Principal Cup” is aimed at actively engaging the youth through sports whilst promoting the values of excellence and fair play. The Bank will also present jerseys, footballs and kits to the participating schools.
