Jatta’s FC were on Sunday crowned champions of the Lamin Super Cup final after a 4-3 post-match penalty shootout defeat over Medina United, following a goalless stalemate in the regulation time. The final was played at the famous Sandy Sanna Jatta Memorial football field.

Both teams started the game remarkably well, creating lots of goal scoring chances, but neither side was able to convert any of their chances, forcing the game to a penalty shoot-out.

As winners Jatta’s FC went home with a giant trophy and cash prize of D15, 000, while the runners up Medina United pocketed a consolation prize of D10, 000.

Speaking in an interview with Observer Sports, Baba Dumbuya, head coach of Jatta’s FC, expressed delight for adding another trophy to their trophy cabin, noting that the match was fair as both teams showed a respectable performance.

The former U-17 goalie Dumbuya stressed that the most important thing in a game is to win. “A win is always a win and it doesn’t matter how you get it,” he said.

For his part, Emanuel Gibou, assistant coach of Medina United was quite a disappointed man after losing to Jattas.

Modou Bah, Secretary General of the Lamin Sports Committee, expressed delight for the successful completion of their Super Cup final.
