Coach Buba Kakai Bojang yesterday guided Gunjur to its first ever Super Nawettan final following a semifinal win over Sukuta at the Serrekunda East Mini-Stadium.
Regulation time ended in a 1-1 draw before Gunjur went on to win 4-3 on a post-match penalty shoot-out.
Sukuta took the lead in the 5th minute courtesy of Omar S Bah’s powerful shot outside the 18-yard box. Gunjur forced the game into the gruesome post-match kicks when Mbemba Fatty scored a last minute penalty.
Elsewhere yesterday, Banjul defeated record winners SK East in the other semis played at the SK West Mini-Stadium. The game ended in a goalless draw before the City Boys prevailed on another post-match shootout.
Gunjur will now face Banjul in the finals on Friday at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. The two sides have also secured a place for themselves in the Real de Bajul Golden Jubilee football competition that would get underway on October 29.
