Gunjur were on Friday crowned champions of the Super Nawettan competition for the first time in their history following a 2-1 defeat of Banjul in the finals.

It was the City Boys that took the lead after just 17 minutes through Essa Jallow but Salifu Bojang scored to ensure parity nine minutes before the break. Malang Jassey scored a last gasp penalty to complete the comeback.

Speaking in a post-match interview with reporters, Gunjur Coach Babucarr Kakai Bojang expressed delight with what he described as the brilliant performance of his players. He also expressed a sense of fulfillment that he was able to deliver the promise he made to land Gunjur its first title in the competition when he was appointed for the job.

He went on to say that when Banjul scored its early goal, he told his players to calm down and maintain their rhythm, noting that as a result they were able to respond before the end of the first half.
