The Gambia Armed Forces and Samger began their campaign in the new first division season with a draw after they played a goalless stalemate at the Serekunda East Mini-Stadium.

GAF came into the new season with big ambitions with the signature of Ebou Jarra as new coach following his exploits by guiding Tallinding United into the first division.

Speaking with reporters shortly after the final whistle, Jarra said it was a good encounter against Samger FC, noting that is not a bad result to share the spoils with the Academy Boys. He said their target is to make sure they win more games.

“Our goal is to win more matches than we draw and to draw more matches than to lose, if we are to lose any.” He added that the team is not under any pressure from their management, adding that the CDS of GAF commended their performance despite drawing in their opening game.

Jarra further noted that their target is to be always playing good football even when losing, adding that their only problem is lack of not scoring goals, which he promised they would work on.

For his part, the Samger FC Coach Jane Joof expressed delight with a point, noting that it is always difficult playing in the opening of the season. He acknowledged that GAF is a big team that is well organised and composed.

Joof said both teams played very well and sharing the points is a fair result for them, noting that they also need to work on their scoring in upcoming games.

Elsewhere in the opening game of the season, champions Gambia Ports Authority began the defence of their title with a 1-1 draw with Steve Biko. The game was played at the Independence stadium.
