Real de Banjul FC on Saturday defeated Gamtel FC 2-1 in week two fixtures of the ongoing National League division one, played at the KG5 Mini-Stadium in Banjul.
After going into the break deadlocked, the Real took the lead through defender Salifu Krubally in the 54th minute. Yankuba Jarju’s penalty in the 67th minute extended their lead to 2-0 but Yaya Ndong pulled one back in the 78th minute to ensure a nervy finish for the 12-time Gambian champions.
Speaking in an interview with reporters shortly after the game, assistant coach of Real de Banjul FC, Abdoulie Njie commended his players for the victory, noting that they need to redouble their efforts after securing their first win of the season.
For his part, the assistant coach of Gamtel FC, Momodou Jim Kebbeh also thanked his players for their performance but expressed disappointment with the final result, blaming the referee act led to for their defeat.
“You can see the give and take between my players and the referee, and we had a clear penalty but he never blew the whistle. So I can fully say that the referee contributed to our defeat to Real de Banjul.”
Coach Kebbeh who is yet to win a game after two matches, assured his fans that they will work hard to do better in their next games.
